Is your child struggling with anxiety or behavioral challenges?

Is your child anxious, easily frustrated, quick to throw tantrums, or struggling to cope with increasing demands at school? Are these challenges affecting their self-esteem, social-emotional development, quality of sleep, or happiness? Perhaps you’ve noticed it affecting their friendships, behavior, or achievement at school. Maybe their negative self-talk and self-doubt affect their motivation to participate in new activities outside of their comfort zone.

HOW CHILD THERAPY WORKS

Establishing a solid rapport and therapeutic alliance is at the foundation of effective therapy. Therapy sessions are a combination of talking and skills practice. Engaging and interactive play- and art-based activities are balanced with skill-building. I prioritize building trust by providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for children to explore their thoughts and feelings.

Parent involvement is key to ensuring that therapy skills generalize to real-life settings and progress is maintained over time. Children are part of a family unit and I work just as closely with parents by scheduling regular check-ins and offering parent-only sessions to review skills, progress, and challenges.

Through a combination of psychoeducation, art, games, discussion, role-play/practice, and in-home skills practice assignments, your child will develop skills to manage stress & anxiety, improve their emotion regulation, enhance their social & friendship skills, and learn effective communication strategies.

As your child builds mastery of strategies to manage their anxiety, stress, and behavior, therapy sessions will taper down in frequency before coming to an end. Your child will be prepared to use their skills independently and with ongoing parent support.

Therapy can help your child:

  • Develop healthy coping skills to manage anxiety, frustration, anger, and stress

  • Strengthen communication and social skills

  • Improve self-esteem, confidence, and self-compassion

  • Develop resilience and grit

  • Cultivate a growth mindset

Your child has incredible gifts, strengths, & potential.

I’M HERE TO HELP THEM DISCOVER IT.

FAQS

Common questions about therapy for children

  • Absolutely. If you read through my website and felt like it described your child, then we may be a good fit. Children who are able to use concrete coping skills to manage stress and anxiety tend to benefit from therapy with me.

Please feel free to reach out if you would like additional information.

  • Parents play an essential role in the therapy process and are involved in each step of the therapy process. Parents are kept up to date on progress so they can model and coach therapy skills between sessions.

Therapy works best when children are supported as they apply newly learned skills in real-life settings, with the support of their parents/caregivers. Parents are always kept informed when important issues arise.

  • Children who are shy or bashful often prefer to meet me with their parent(s) present for the first session. Since children warm up at different rates, I am flexible with how visits are shaped and how much percentage of the visit is a child individually and child with a parent present. I’ll introduce myself as a “talking or feelings doctor” and reassure them that I am also a “no touch doctor.”

To start, I will get to know your child through various fun, interactive, and engaging ice breaker activities to get to know them better. I will learn about their hobbies, interests, friends, wishes, etc. I take their interests into consideration when deciding on session structure and activities.
